April 2005, Page 4 Behind the Scenes at WDI, "Donald's Apprentice," Send Your Kid to DCA day, Anaheim's Conquest by Eminent Domain, Cruise on Disney Magic
Soon Southern California residents will be able to board the Disney Magic cruise ship for an unforgettable week of Disney magic at the Disneyland Resort. Expected to be in operation by May 5, guests will find the Disney Magic cruise ship exploring the Rivers of America right along side the Mark Twain. Imagine spending an entire week inside the Disneyland park -- this is the ultimate Disney geek dream! Ports of call during the cruise include Tom Sawyer Island, an Indian village, and Frontierland. For an extra fee, thrill-seeking guest may participate in an after-dark adventure to hear scary stories and visit the remains of a burned-out settler's cabin where cast members will jump out from behind bushes wearing skeleton costumes. (Note: the InsidEar has NO IDEA why the bushes are wearing skeleton costumes, but that is what our source reported). Guests wandering the ship's deck after park closing get to see some of the magic that happens only when the park is closed -- things such as chewing gum removal and light bulb replacement. Truly fascinating stuff!
The InsidEar has been asked how they are going to move a cruise ship into the Rivers of America. It is actually very simple. At the north end of the river there is only the berm, the train track, and a few trees separating the river from maintenance areas. Overnight, two huge tractors will remove these obstacles and create a loading ramp for the ship. From that point it will be a simple matter to back Disney Magic's trailer into the river and unload the ship. The berm, tracks and trees will simply be put back in place before the park reopens.
Well, that about wraps it up for this month,
See you at Disneyland!
