InspEARations

Beginning today, Disney's California Adventure plays host to 75 six-foot-tall, 700-pound Mickey Mouse statues. The statues were first seen on Mickey's 75th anniversary on November 18, 2003, when they were unveiled by Mickey himself with the assistance of a temporary Disney employee at the Walt Disney World Resort. The statues will be on display at California Adventure through February 22, 2005.

The series of statues is officially referred to as "Celebrate Mickey: 75 InspEARations." All of the statues are identical aside from their paint job and accents. Some of the designs were created by individuals, some by corporate sponsors, and some by employees of various Disney corporate divisions. Others were created specifically for cities in which the collection would tour.

After leaving California Adventure, the statues will be taken to Washington D.C. for display, and then to New York City where they will be auctioned by Sotheby's to help defray the cost of Michael Eisner's 2004 year-end bonus.
